So Long
The Ravens The Ravens 1985 Reunion: Bass Guitar: John Anthony Rythmn Guitar: Joe Gracia Lead Guitar: Rich O'Connor Drums: Jeff Annunziata Lead Vocal: All July, 2012: Joe: And that was the last time we four got together. I went back to my life in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, back to building my career. I would still play guitar and sing at some parties here and there. But it was never the same. It was kind of prophetic when Jeff said, "Why, you gonna die?" Because, sadly, not too many years later, Jeff did pass away. And not too long after that, his wife died too. We all looked so young and full of life in those videos. Boy, life sure does zip past you when you're not looking. I actually put my guitar away for many years since there was so little time for music. But then when my daughter Amanda was born I took it out again to entertain her, and then started playing at picnics and some small events. But now it sits in my office in the corner, looking sad and neglected. Not enough hours in the day. I was so glad that we had that last, final get together. It brought back a lot of good memories. Sometimes I wish we could have practiced the songs a bit--at least had the words written out. But, of course, that wasn't practical. It was a last minute get together. These songs were very rough with lots of forgotten words and chords, but here and there I saw and heard a glimmer of what it used to be like. Especially, It's All Over Now. I talk to some 30-40 somethings today about what it was like to play music in the sixties and you just can't explain what an incredible decade that was for music. There hasn't been anything like it. If you weren't there, then it's impossible to know. Every day you would hear a new, incredible sound, like The Mamas and the Papas, or The Byrds, Stones, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Beach Boys, The Association, The Kinks, etc.. Every one unique and distinct. You don't hear that kind of creativity any longer. Oh sure there are some amazing performers today, and some really good songs, but nothing like the torrent of talent in the sixties. I'm glad I was there. |
